Once in a while, a piece comes along that is just so much fun to stitch. This is the case with Old Glory. It is just plain fun. The silk thread just glides through the fabric and the colors pop. I love working on this. The bonus is that it has specialty stitches. I love specialty stitches. They make a piece look so amazing. I am having so much fun.
It has been a good evening. I came home and made my macaroni and cheese. I make mine in a skillet. I am sad when I see a bubbling pan of mac and cheese and it is without cheese in the middle. So I have always made mine in a skillet, so that every elbow noodle is perfectly encased in cheese. Plus I add olives to it for a little bite of salt here and there. I have made the same mac and cheese since my kiddoes were small.
When I was 18, I bought my first cookbook. It was a part of one of those deals where you got 4 books for a dollar if you promised to buy two more during the year. So I picked out a Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook that was published in like 1980. This was prior to the diet conscious revolution, so everything has butter and milk in it. This has always been my favorite cookbook. The pages are stained, the spine of the book is non-existent, and it is sort of frail. But I love it, and have never found another cookbook that it comparable. I have cooked so many meals out of that book, and I have great memories whenever I open it.
