Domestic Bliss

Today was a good day, all things considered. I woke up with that chest cough that is going around. It was cold, too, which sort of aggravated the cough. I am always concerned about sharing any germs with anyone who might have a weaker immune system, so I stayed home from church. It was cold and gray, so I made myself a cup of tea, lit a fire in the fireplace, got under a blanket with my favorite puppygirl and read my book. It was quite nice and cozy.

I was feeling a bit better in the afternoon, so I decided to get a head start on my cooking for the week. One of my very closest and very busy friends taught me this. She cooks on Sunday the things she thinks she will need during the week. She makes a couple of batches of brown rice, soups, etc, so that all she has to do is microwave certain parts of her meal when she comes home after work. So today I made a big pot of spaghetti sauce and a pot of lentil soup. I also needed to use up some bananas so I made banana nut bread. I feel ready to face to the week now. My friend was lamenting the fact that she has used up her homemade marshmallows, so I think I will make some and surprise her this week, I have leftover supplies on hand, so I just have to fire up the mixer.

I really wanted to garden today if 1) I was feeling better and 2) if it was not so gosh darn cold. I really need to prune my rose bushes back within the next couple of weeks. I also wanted to do some general maintenance, but alas, it was not to be today. I really want to get some lavendar started, too. I would love to have more lavendar in my yard for several projects, including making my own Herbs Du Provence. So many projects, so little time...I was thrilled to see my azalea in bloom. I also have four trees of camellias about to burst forth with blooms.

Of course, my day of domestic bliss would not be complete without my stitching. It was delightful to be able to put some stitches in Ellie May. All in all, it was a really good day at home.
