Mid Way Through The Week!

Oy vey. It has been a long evening. I had to take a Microeconomics test tonight and it was harder than I thought it would be. I was hoping to be in bed by now, but alas...

I do not know if I have ever shared this, but I am a really big fan of John Steinbeck's writing. Much of his writing took place here on the Monterey Peninsula and in the Salinas Valley, so I have an even deeper appreciation of his work, since I get to walk in the same places as many of his characters. But I have to say, that one of my very favorite books is "Travels With Charly" about his road trip that he took in his camper "Rocinante" with his black poodle, Charly. (As a side note, you can actually see Rocinante at the Steinbeck Center in Salinas. Cool, huh!) I dearly loved this book and it was not until Liesl came into my life that I really came to understand the bond he shared with his dog.

There are times when I wonder if I am being boring by writing so much about Liesl, but I just find her fascinating. Schnauzers are so very smart and almost human like in alot that they do. She seems to understand language in a profound way and is really responsive. Mostly, she is just a happy little dog, who smiles alot. When she is smiling her eyes are all lit up and she brings joy to those she is smiling at.

I had to crack up tonight. It used to be that several months ago she used to cling to me and want to be in whatever room I was in. In the last couple of months though, she kind of happily trots through the house like she is on a mission. It is kind of funny to see her smiling her big schnauzer smile, walking like she has someplace she has to be. Tonight, she had decided that she had misplaced an important toy and went off on a treasure hunt. Just like a toddler, when she was done, she just sort of crashed and went to sleep all sprawled out.

It is nice to have this kind of entertainment while I stitch and power down for the evening. I did get to work on my snowman, and will post more photos soon!

Patti,

I love to hear about your adventures with Liesl. I was thrilled to visit California recently (again) and honestly dream about what it must be like to live there. So beautiful, so relaxing. I loved every minute!
